Week 8 - Mashups etc
I created a Rollyo search for evidence based medicine resources at our library. Only Stat!Ref worked. There must be some protection to not allow DynaMed or Essential Evidence be searched with an outside mechanism. I think this is my Rollyo search box:
Yikes maybe not!!! Guess that wasnt it.
I can see how this search set up would be useful, but at this point in time way too time consuming to add it to a central search set up. Im not sure that this is any different than setting up a google search, Im just too inexperienced to know.
This has been a great class and I am suffering from Technology overload, but I have learned alot. Now just to use it more before it all fades away.

Week 7 Podcasting (U-Tube)
I really like the U-Tube for setting up tutorials without video. The video gets bogged down and pauses too many times to make it worthwhile. I found a Cochrane Library tutorial and have added it to my blog. I will attempt to add it to my facebook page since Im trying to keep my facebook library related! The podcasts from Tennessee and Virginia were excellent. This would be very useful in our library. The difficulty in podcasting is setting it up and then keeping it up which is probably every complaint. Might need an extra librarian to do just that!
I dont really get Odeo, but Ive got an account!

Week 6 photo sharing
Can only use Kodak Gallery to share photos. Flickr must be blocked or else every librarian is adding photos to their facebook accounts. I think photo directories would be very useful in library associations. Also a good marketing tool for library locations and fun activities.
As you can see here, I am very excited about my new central air conditioning and heat pump. Cold this summer and warm next winter. And I can add an image on my blog

Week 5 google docs
If Goole docs is the new way to collaborate on papers, presentations, etc, I will need to learn another way to edit. I usually copy the word document, make changes and then paste it back in. I dont think the formatting on GD is as good as Microsoft word, or it is just that little bit different to make it very hard to adjust to. I couldnt seem to get an image file into the presentation.

Week 4 Social Bookmarking
I have used del.icio.us for a while. I like how easy it is to use. I work from two work stations, and can never remember what I saved on this one or that one. Del.icio.us lets me move from station to station and return to the site I need to get to.
I can however see saving sooooo very many sites that it might be sort of useless. I need to work on better tags.
It is a good way to see what other people think is important enough to tag.
For research it would be useful to tag all websites for a single cooperative project.
Will attach my del.icio.us site

Week 3 - Facebook & LinkedIn
Oh I just love LinkedIn. Very professional. Has many uses for library contacts etc. Facebook is fun and is a good place to enter your library catalog...That was the coolest thing. And the PubMed search link was awesome. We will get our catalog up this summer...cant have UAB having all the fun. Medical Students contact each other on Facebook. Many of our students have "friended" us, I think we might add our facebook pages to the orientation information.
Im not sure Im ready for MySpace. My kids would hate me, they did come around to me on Facebook though!
Privacy? Whats that in social networking?

Week 2 add
A bit more time spent on these new social networking skills. Still hope it will be useful. I am trying to think of very creative ways to use them in the library.
Blog versus wiki....well blog is more personal (mine) and wiki for more outsiders. Im worried I will give the wrong answer!

Week 2: Wikis
Adding links to my blog was a bit difficult. Linked my wiki. I hope it will be useful in my teaching.

Week 1 Blogs & RSS
Blog and RSS created. I still think blogging is just another email, but will be very pleased when it turns out to be something else. The RSS was pretty neat especially the PubMed search. That should be useful in library functions (probably for the young interested researcher types!)
I still have trouble moving around in the RSS and some of my feeds dont show up in my folders on the left. (using google reader) I do think Im moving closer to a 2.0 brain!
